At Open Plan Space, we specialise in transforming outdated toilet and bathroom layouts into one large, functional, and stylish space. This approach is especially useful for clients looking to merge separate toilets and bathrooms or add downstairs toilet rooms to improve convenience and practicality in the home.
New to the area, our clients found us through word of mouth. After an initial consultation, they chose us to help reconfigure and enlarge their dated bathroom layout. The existing space followed a traditional floor plan, with the toilet and bathroom in separate rooms. Given the limited footprint, it was important to maximise the usable space while improving flow and practicality.
During the consultation, we discussed the client’s priorities, which included creating a larger shower area and resolving a long-standing issue where the bathroom door couldn’t open fully due to obstructions.
Our solution was simple and effective: we removed the dividing wall between the toilet and bathroom and repurposed the old toilet room as a spacious, wall-to-wall tiled shower. This not only met the client’s desire for a larger shower but also opened up the entire bathroom, creating opportunities for improved storage and ensuring the door could now open without obstruction.
The end result was a bright, modern, and highly functional bathroom – complete with sleek storage solutions, glossy grey tiles, and LED lighting. It now serves as a comfortable, stylish space that reflects the client’s needs and tastes while maximising the room’s potential.

A happy customer
“We want to say a big thank you to Matthew, Danny and his team. We are new to the area, pensioners, and thought everyone is out to fleece us. How wrong we were. We got recommended from our alarm engineer which was a good start.
The whole team were absolutely marvellous and we have been left with a super bathroom. The building work, knocking 2 rooms into one (the wall being load bearing) went very smoothly, with building inspector very pleased with the job.
Please if you need a alteration, building, plumbing or joinery job (or all of these) consider these young guys nothing is too much trouble and an excellent job was done, very recommendable.”
