Our client approached us with a clear vision: to remodel a recently purchased bungalow into a bright, modern living space. From the initial consultation, we saw the property’s strong potential and discussed various ways to maximise the space to suit his lifestyle. The key goal was to transform the kitchen into an open, inviting focal point for hosting family and friends, with seamless integration into the garden – perfect for those long summer evenings. We explored all viable options in depth, weighing up the pros and cons of both extending and converting the loft.
The client ultimately chose a full rip-out and major remodel. We stripped the property back to the brick shell, removing all internal walls and plasterwork to create a completely blank canvas. The roof was also removed and rebuilt to accommodate a loft conversion, adding valuable living space to the home. Additionally, we carried out major structural alterations to the bathroom and part of the downstairs area to create a more open, social layout with the inclusion of a downstairs toilet.
At the rear of the property, we needed to balance practicality with a light-filled design. To achieve this, we reconfigured the brickwork – removing the existing window and door and rebuilding the wall inward to create a symmetrical opening for bi-fold doors. This not only gave the client a larger, more usable kitchen wall area for cabinetry and appliances but also maintained an open, airy feel that seamlessly connects to the garden. The new bi-fold doors offer a beautiful flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
With the property stripped back to bare brick, the project progressed smoothly, enabling efficient coordination between trades. The end result is a bright, open-plan home, perfect for entertaining – with a dramatically increased footprint, thanks to the stunning loft dormer conversion we completed.
